And just for fun...

Two posts in one day - a new record. ;)

Got this little gadget from Jennifer Armintrout's blog. I thought the result was interesting since the excerpt I used was from my latest WIP - one that is darker than any other I've done so far, even though the paragraphs I used weren't really dark.

I write like
Stephen King

  1. I tried this...but dammit to hell...I keep writing like Stewart Sternberg. I think it's broken.

  2. Hey, I'd be flattered if it said I wrote like Stewart Sternberg!

Although, I am concerned about his taste in videos...

  3. Ack! Mine days I write like Dan Brown. I'd love to be a bestseller like him, but I don't have a high opinion of him as a writer.

  4. LOL, Edie. I tried it again with one of my romances, and it came up as Margaret Atwood.

I'm thinking maybe it just scans the document for certain key words and takes it from there. You didn't mention codes or angels or anything did you? :) I realized later in my first try the excerpt had the words "midnight" and "blood" in it. Hence, Mr. King.

Like you, I wouldn't mind having their sales, though!

  5. I tried it with this short piece http://travsthoughts.blogspot.com/2008/09/step-into-wayback-machine-with-me.html

It came up as Margaret Atwood.

Then I tried it with this piece http://travsthoughts.blogspot.com/2007/06/words-on-wednesday-assignment.html

It came up as Dan Brown.

I agree with you...I think it looks for code words. But it's nice to be compared with best selling authors in any way.

LOL, isn't that the truth! I'll try to read your bits soon. It's 5:30am right now and I have to get ready for work. :(

  7. I"ll give it a try. I'm kind of curious. I'm betting for writing like "Popeye"

  9. It says I write like David Foster Wallace. I've never read his work, although it's much praised. He committed suicide a couple of years ago.

Thanks for the link to the "I write like..." site. Not only is the main device fun, the page has interesting links.

  11. I doubt you write like Stephen King. You're probably original & compose good, satisfying endings. ;)

  14. My WIP got 'Raymond Chandler'; for a laugh I stuck a chapter of my (frankly filthy) erotica in there and got... Margaret Atwood?! :-)

  15. Frankly filthy erotica, Steve? So... when's that coming out in e-book? :)
