Progress

I recently read Candice Gilmore's brave blog about her experience with Weight Watchers, and was impressed how she posted her progress. Since this month's "boob wishes" for me include not so much the losing of the weight as the motivation/energy to do so, I thought I would borrow a page from her book and post my progress (or lack of) out here for the world to see in an attempt to stay motivated.
So without further ado, here is where things stand from last week:

Now I just need to stay motivated to finish my WIPs, too. :) A few days ago I took some time out to write a synopsis, broke through one bit of writer's block, then got hit with it again. To break through that one, I tossed all seven pages of the synopsis in the air, closed my eyes and picked up one page. I told myself that I would write whatever scenes were on that page. That worked fairly well for a couple of days, now I find myself back to watching TV, playing spider solitaire and putting up progress meters on my blog. :) What do you do to stay motivated - whether it's writing, dieting, working out - how do you stick to the goals you set for yourself when you aren't accountable to anyone else?

  1. Hey, Kate! Love the pic you added. Okay, I relate to your blog today. I'm in that between holidays, have so much to do, don't wanna do any goal-orientation stuff. I think it's called, mental fog here. lol. Normal I'd say. Don't stress, and maybe it'll flow again. I plan on taking my own advice.

  2. Thanks, LaDonna - good to "see" you. :) I started a short story last night and it seems to be flowing well. I thought a short story would give me a mental break and be small enough to finish in a day or two. That would at least give me *some* sense of accomplishment. :)

  3. Kate, I feel good even if I just get one page written. I used to beat myself up because I'd have planned 10 pages, but now as long as I'm moving forward, I feel good, and that keeps me motivated.

Also love the addition to the header image, BTW.

  4. Thanks, Michelle. That's a good way of looking at it. I tend to beat myself up a lot, too. Every book is written a page (or word!) at a time, so you're right - even if it's only one page, it's progress. I just need to learn a little patience, I suppose. :)

  5. Becky, I was going through a weird thing earlier this summer that messed up my writing, but usually I write every day (except for holidays, lol). I want to sell, and that motivates me. Even one page a day is good, even if it's crap.

I've been trying to lose weight too. I've made up my mind to lose 5 pounds by the end of Dec. I'll come back and we can compare. :)

  6. Sure thing, Edie! LOL
Hey - I need the motivation & support. Of course, eating a ton of "Dibs" this evening didn't help anything. Whoever came up with the idea of ice cream as a finger food is diabolical.

  7. I agree with what Michelle said. Setting unrealistic goals and then beating myself up for not reaching them is a recipe guaranteed to make me miserable and unproductive. If I can write SOMETHING every day, then I count it as a win. I kinda have to sneak up on myself with goals, I guess. :-)

    Congrats on the weight loss!

  8. Thanks for stopping by, Lynne, and for the congratulations. Love the "sneaking up on yourself!" :)
