Trouble concentrating

I just can't seem to focus these days. It's harder and harder to care about the day job when I'd much rather spend my time creating worlds from my imagination, and reading about others' pursuits of the same. There are so many great blogs & websites out there by authors and artists, and I get such great emails from fellow writers - who has time to work a day job?

For example, if you go to Magical Musings, one of my favorite blogs, every single person on there has her own great site, so there goes several more hours clicking and reading. Then recently, my fellow Desert Rose members Mackenzie McKade and Cheyenne McCray had great new book trailers made on their MySpaces, so naturally, I had to check those out. (I want to be them when I grow up! Of course, it's probably too late, since I think I'm older than they are. :))

In the meantime, however, I still have to provide food, clothing and shelter to my daughter (kids are so demanding!) so I guess I'll have to stick it out with the day job a little longer. At least until I become rich and famous, or until she moves out and I can be a starving artist.

  1. Starving artist is fun, Kate! LOL. I remember well the working to pay bills, wanting to be home writing full-time. Now, I feel guilty when I have a day I don't accomplish much on my craft. I will tell you though, I wake up every day and am grateful. Sounds like you're on the home stretch, though!

  2. Thanks, LaDonna. I keep hoping to win the lottery, but someone told me I'd have to buy a ticket first - who knew these things were so complicated? :)
I'm glad you're able to do what you love full time - it's worth so much.

  3. Forgot to tell you my sofa is oh... pretty ancient. LOL. I think it was used in Atlantis. The payoff is worth it, though. I can always buy a new one when I publish, right?

  4. Lol - that's the spirit! :) Then you can just keep that old sofa around to remind you of the good old days while you lounge around on your new ones, eating bon-bons and enjoying your new-found fame. :)

Although, we should remember, according to Pamela Britton, there's not going to be much time to do that once the contracts start rolling in. The old "be careful what you wish for" thing - darnit. :)

  5. Hey, Kate, we can eat those bon bons at our desk! LOL. I think we should forge full speed ahead! I'll lounge on my new sofa after the pages are done! hehe

  6. Kate, a lottery ticket is just an alternative form of taxation for people who don't understand statistics anyway :)

It is annoying when the day job interferes with writing and blog-hopping isn't it?

By the way, not sure if I said before, but I love the look of your blog. Great header image!

  7. LaDonna - sounds like a plan to me! :)

LOL, Michelle - I was never very good at math or statistics. :)
Thanks for the compliment, but the kudos go to Pannasmontata Templates - she does great work. I used this template in combination with another of hers on my web page and MySpace. I like it - it will work while I'm waiting to afford Justin at Stonecreek. :)

  8. Kate, I recently made a pact with myself that I'll write 5 pages before checking my email. That's really cut down on my blogging, but it's great to get those 5 pages in. So far I've done it for 4 days. :)

I'm catching up on my blogging now. LOL
