Magical Monday - Wish Lists

My original plan for today was to write about some of the synchronistic things that happened when I was packing to move to Arizona a few years ago, but this morning something happened to change my mind.

Since I take the train to work, I decided to take a small notebook with me so I could do some writing. After I got settled in and opened it, and I found a list I had made after I'd read the book "Write it Down, Make it Happen." I had forgotten completely about it.

I had listed 104 things that I would like to happen and saw it was dated 9/18/07. That was 15 weeks ago - and when I sat down, reviewed the list carefully and added it up, I saw that 15 of those things have already happened or have started happening. That averages to one per week. Now I just hope the rest come true, say, like that big lottery win. :)

Of course, I did notice that big dummy that I am, I had written that I would like a nice dog and cat. I had really forgotten about that one. If you read this post from my other blog, you'll see how that's turned out.

But I think I'll ask the Universe to hold off on the cat for now. :)

As I looked through the list, there was something else that struck me. Some of things I put that I'd like to have had started to arrive, but I was the one who stopped them in their tracks by my negativity. It was a reminder to think positive and not give up. I had even started the day in a slightly negative frame of mind, so that was a much needed wake up call for the New Year. (Especially considering that I'd made some more boob wishes earlier in the month - one of which was something that was included in the notebook.)

If you haven't read "Write it Down, Make it Happen", I recommend it. What are some of the things you'd like to see happen this upcoming year? Go ahead. Write it down. Make it happen. :)

  1. 15 out of 104 eh? And you had forgotten about the list?

Dang. That's pretty decent cosmic karma.

  2. Hi Travis! Well, I think one a week isn't bad, is it? Especially since I had written most of it with a due date of 12/31/08. :) I figure at that rate, I should all but 23 by the end of the New Year.

I'm okay with waiting til 2009 for the rest of it - you know, the things like meeting Alan Rickman and JK Rowling. I guess I can hold off on those til then. ;)

  3. Kate, that's awesome! I've read the Write It Down book before. I even mentioned it in my wip. lol

It would be very cool to meet AR and JKR. I'll have to make up a fun list too. :)

  4. Kate, I'm a firm believer in the write it down too. It becomes real, and basically you allow it to come into your life. Thanks for list reminder. Something I'll do today, and I'll keep ya posted on the returns too. :)

  5. Wishing you a Happy New Year, Kate, filled with joy and happiness; the comforting warmth of love; good health and wellbeing; the delight of true friendship; and enough of whatever you want and need to fulfill your deepest dreams and desires.

Thank you for enriching my life this past year. May all your dreams come true in 2008!

    From my heart to yours,

    --Daisy

  6. Edie, how funny (and cool!) that you mentioned it in your WIP. :) I look forward to hearing about how your list is coming true.

Same with you, LaDonna. I can't wait to hear what neat things have happened as a result of your wish list. :)

Aww, Daisy. Thank you - and I wish you the same. :)

  7. Now that you mention it, I think I'll give it a try. I have tons of notebooks lingering around. Do you currently live in Arizona or did you move to Chicago? I could have visited you if you were in AZ. I don't remember it getting so cold at night until my last visit.

  9. Hmm, I just sat here for about ten minutes trying to condense my thoughts into a comment. You may have just given me a blog post!

Also, wishing you the very best of your hopes and dreams this year!

  10. Christina - I moved back to IL about a year and 1/2 ago. Now that it's four degrees out, I'm starting to wonder why. :)

Hi, Michelle! Give it a try - can't hurt. :)

LOL, Steve. I look forward to reading it.

  11. A great idea. My friend's mom back in Jr. High once told me that she'd kept such a list & had eventually gotten everything on it. What was true then is true today, as well.

  12. I write things down but then throw them away. Maybe I need to keep the paper around for a while to check in on my progress. :-)

Very cute dog, by the way!

  13. The power of positive thinking is a strong one, mostly, I think, because when one stops thinking positively, one tends to doubt, and doubt leads to giving up (and then nothing happens).

This year I decided to make a Yule fire and burn my wish list in it. Supposedly, the ashes of the list will go into the ether and reach the correct wish-granting parties. The writing of it took a while; I tend to word my wishes like legal contracts. I have a suspicion the Universe is a bored entity and likes to see just how many horrific variations it can make out of a seemingly harmless, simple wish.

  14. Cool, Lana. :)

Lynne, I had forgotten about this one, so it was interesting to see how it was coming about. I recommend holding onto them now. :)

Avery, I think you're onto something. I shudder to think of the times I've not been careful what I wished for and received it.

  15. Hi Kate, they've let me in today. I dunno about making it happen, but there's something to be said for writing down ideas when they pop into yer head, in order to help your writing later. I often find bits and pieces in my diary at changeover time each year, whjich I am able to really work-up into some different types of stories and yarns. I guess there's something in that writing journal thing that everyone keeps banging on about.

  16. Oh man! I've missed the blog by 15 days. Okay, so the things I'd like to see happen are:

    1. I win the Powerball
    2. I get a contract for my dark/urban fantasy manuscript
    3. I win the Powerball

Marcia, you and me both. :)
